Editorials   Twin Galaxies Video Game Festival - Part One
- By Mike Schneider

I’ve never really been to any full-fledged video game tournaments in my lifetime, and although I’ve been to two E3's now, I did not know what to expect with my arrival to the Twin Galaxies Video Game Festival at the Mall of America.

This mall eats youngins alive.

With that said, the spectacle that beheld my eyes was beyond anything I had put together in my mind. The whole festival, to me anyway, encompassed what videogames are about and just being a part of it all was a very humbling experience

Looking down on the festival from the second level balcony. Go Twins!

Tariq and I spent about an hour and a half at the Mall on the Saturday of this festival, and another three hours on Sunday. There were many draws to coming, such as participating in gaming tournaments, playing the dozens of arcade kiosks with the games set on free play, or just mingling with people and the videogame celebrities.

Who can argue with being able to play classics for free?

I would definitely say that the top highlight for me, above all else, was the interaction with true videogamers. Without a doubt, the people that made trips out to the mall specifically for the festival were videogamers at heart, and truly love them. Talking to Billy Mitchell about gaming in the classic days was a thrill. The whole attitude and feel seemed to be "we're here to play games and enjoy them from their heyday, leave all the other fluff to the non-hardcore." It was really refreshing.

A definite bumper-sticker for the hardcore.
