Feature  Top Ten Shooting Games - Page 1 || Page 2
- By Mike Schneider, Brett Fulesday, Ryan Eid, Erik Hawkins; 5.01.01

We're getting to the nitty and gritty now, read on to find what we consider to have been the five greatest shooting games on N64.

5.) Star Fox 64

Nintendo's adrenaline-pumping aircraft shooter makes a return on
the N64, and in a huge way. SF64 features tons of voice acting and proved cartridges are capable of
pumping out great sound, nonstop shooting action, beautifully detailed worlds, and the ability to utilize three different crafts. One of the most fun, fast, and engaging twitch shooters ever made. Moreover, this game was what introduced us to the Rumble Pak, and who can forget that sensational rumbling you'd get to feel upon sending Slippy spiraling to his death! A great ride while the action lasted, though the entire game could be completed in an hour or two. Regardless, the true fun in Star Fox 64 came in trying to go the most difficult route to Andross, and in obtaining each and every medal.

4.) Resident Evil 2
Thanks to the wizards at Angel Studios, full-motion video was able to be realized on the N64 for the first time, in the form of
Resident Evil 2. As remarkable as that alone
was, RE2 had the gameplay to back it up. The term "survival horror" has never rang more true. The two quests intertwine beautifully, making this a fun, spooky title, that amazingly, fit onto a cartridge. Regardless of the fact that the game was essentially a port of the PSX version, Resident Evil 2 is a top tier N64 game that must be experienced.

3.) Jet Force Gemini
One of the most overshadowed games of recent memory, JFG showcased one of Rare's greatest outings yet. Jet Force Gemini featured brilliant graphics, a
soundtrack worth dying for, huge guns, and lots of enemies to use those huge guns on. Then of course, there is a plot that creates a certain Star Wars feel to it, and the occasional puzzle to solve. If it weren't for rescuing every damn Jinjo, and the occasional framerate issue and camera problem, Jet Force Gemini would have been able to garner more notoriety. A franchise we really hope Rare opts to continue on the NGC.

2.) Goldeneye

Goldeneye is the game that totally redefined the standard of the FPS genre. It featured graphics exceeding anything on any console at the time, and proved Nintendo's inclusion of four controller-ports on its
console to be ingenious. We're willing to bet that multiplayer matches of Goldeneye tied up more man hours than personal hygiene and eating habits for many gamers, and for good reason; Goldeneye's multiplayer was more addicting than crack. As a one-player game, the variety of objectives and superb AI, as well as opening up every cheat, made for a fantastic experience. Goldeneye is one of those rare games that you could play for weeks and it wouldn't get old.

1.) Perfect Dark

What can be said? The masterminds at Rare has done what was previously thought impossible: Surpass GoldenEye, in nearly every facet. With a superb (and completely customizable)
multiplayer, to the interesting solo mission, to co and counter-operative modes, to training modes, Perfect Dark has everything a shooter fan could want, albeit with a touch of slowdown. But getting past the framerate stutters here and there, Rare has delivered a masterpiece. A game that will be the benchmark for all shooters for some time to come. Or at least, until Perfect Dark 2 :).
