News   Z-Trigger Mystery Unfolded
- Posted By Ryan Eid, 10.03.2001

According to Nintendo guru/producer Ken Lobb, the "Z-trigger", that awkwardly placed shoulder button above the right analog trigger, may not be exactly what you thought. Instead of being an action button, it serves more as a "select" button for some games.

"My opinion of the Z-button is that it is more like a select button than an action button. The position makes it easier to reach so you don't have to pull your thumb off of the analog stick," stated Mr. Lobb. "We're using it for this in a lot of our games and we're encouraging third-party developers to do the same. We want your fingers to be resting on the L and R buttons."

Well, when he puts it that way, it almost makes sense. It still won't prevent game developers (like Factor 5) to stop using the button for actions (Rogue Leader utilizes the button to help perform barrel rolls). But it should be interesting to see how NIntendo uses the button in the future.
