News   Z.O.E. 2173 Set to be released First Quarter 2002 on GBA
- Posted By Ryan Eid, 09.17.2001

Today, Konami issues a press release regarding the status of their upcoming GBA shooter (and quasi-sequel to the Playstation 2 hit Zone of the Enders). Expect the game early next year. Here's the full press release:

REDWOOD CITY, CA - August 8, 2001 - Konami of America, Inc., announced today that Zone of the Enders 2173: Testament (working title), an all new action/strategy game, will be coming for Nintendo's Game Boy Advance in the first Quarter of 2002.

Based on the universe established in the hit PlayStation 2 computer entertainment system game, Zone of the Enders 2173: Testament continues the intergalactic warfare begun in the original Zone of the Enders. To date, the PS2 Zone of the Enders game has sold over 500,000 units worldwide. Development of the game is being overseen by Noriaki Okamura, the "father" and producer of Zone of the Enders.

In Zone of the Enders 2173: Testament, players will control an army of trucks, tanks, fighters and giant, anime-styled robots, called LEVs, in a two-dimensional, turn-based action game. Players must carefully select their actions, move around large battlefields and engage enemy units in a fight to the finish. Between the action, units can be upgraded and customized by adding parts and weapons or by changing the balance between accuracy and damage or armor and speed. Units will react faster as pilots earn experience from battles and level up. A unique Interactive Action System allows players to speed up battle sequences while giving them more control of the turn-based combat.

Zone of the Enders 2173: Testament follows the adventures of Cage, a young boy who accidentally finds himself piloting a powerful new LEV and quickly becomes a target of military forces looking to take the LEV back. Cage and his new friends in the Mars underground resistance must fight back against the military while simultaneously unraveling the mysteries surrounding a newer, faster LEV that wants Cage's unit destroyed.
