News   NGC Launch Details
- Posted By Mike Schneider, 06.26.2001

In an interview by Famitsu Magazine, and then translated by Core Magazine, Peter Main commented on the launch of GameCube. Have a look at the expectations...

Famitsu: How many games can we expect at launch?

Main: In America we'll launch with 4-5 first party titles, which will grow to 7 by Christmas. In Japan we'll launch with 2-3 games, which will grow to about 5 first-party titles by the end of the year. So we're improving on the N64 launch which only had 2 titles. [laughs..] By comparison the PlayStation 2 had 25 titles at launch, but only a few actually sold. So the number of titles won't be a problem. The most important thing is to have the highest quality games in every genre.

These 4-5 first party titles for the American launch are likely Luigi's Mansion, Wave Race: Blue Storm, NBA Courtside 2002, Pikmin, and Super Smash Brothers: Melee. Of course, this time around, unlike the N64 launch, 2nd and 3rd party help will be much stronger, with the likes of Eternal Darkness and Rogue Squadron 2: Rogue Leader both available at launch or immediately after.
