News   Discouraging Metroid Prime Report
- Posted By Mike Schneider, 07.12.2001

The layoffs at Retro. The rumors of game cancellations so nearly the entire company could focus on Metroid. Nothing being shown at E3. For those thinking the trouble in paradise was over, there's more bad news to report on about Samus...

Meanwhile, two separate insiders have come forth to IGNcube with claims that they have actually seen a running version of a recent Metroid Prime build, both with discouraging impressions. "From what I saw, there was a lot of uninspired, formulaic shooting through 3D hallways. There was barely anything to do," an insider told us. Another informant went so far as to say that the build shown "sucked."

If what these insiders say is true, what a pity such a fine license is being used for. Of course, there's also that whole debate of 'should Metroid have remained 2D' that will likely reopen with each new piece of Metroid Prime, good or bad.

We really hope Samus isn't in trouble...
