News   The World Is Not Enough Interview - Page Four
- Posted By Mike Schneider, 05.23.2000

N64 Shooters:
Is Motorola like sponsoring or something like that?
Albert:
Well Motorola was...they had a gadget sort of vice, and we were like, we've gotta keep some of the real world type stuff.

To bad we can't take this sweet ride out for a spin... We'll be able to shoot missiles out of it, though.

N64 Shooters:
Can you drive?
Albert
: You can't drive, no.

N64 Shooters:
Well, we saw a really cool screenshot of a car...
Albert: The car is in there, and you can get to the car, and the car will fire missiles, but you can't drive the car.

N64 Shooters:
We've heard about a skiing level on rails...
Albert: Ya, it's like a rail shooter, exactly. There's a couple different types of levels, you can actually, umm, there's a skiing level where you're sort of on rails, and you can kind of move a little bit and it's sort of like as if you're trying to ski through and avoid the terrorists and stuff like that and the bombs they drop, so it's kind of a rail shooter, but in a little different way.

N64 Shooters:
Is there anything like sky diving? Or how about remote-controlling the car, that'd be cool.
Albert:
Ya [that would be], unfortunately we're not going to be able to get those in.

N64 Shooters:
Is a November release looking like it's going to happen?

Albert:
Oh ya, definitely. I mean this game is where it is supposed to be, there's still bugs, and there's still features to add...

N64 Shooters: One of the bugs we saw was in three player; if you pause it, and unpause it, it is going to leave a little screen on the bottom. In the player's screen that is not there, it leaves part of the menu.
Albert:
Oh really, that is something that'll be fixed.

N64 Shooters:
How big are the levels? Are they going to be varying in size in multiplayer?
Albert:
Yes, like this [Hidden Volcano] is a pretty good 2 player arena, because it's really small. There's some bigger 4 player, like hidden passageway type stuff.

Is that thing in the bottom right supposed to be there? It didn't show up until we paused and then unpaused.

N64 Shooters:
Are you going to have a no radar option?
Albert:
I don't know actually.

N64 Shooters:
You should definitely do that, because some of my friends, they don't even want to play with a radar. Well, I like it, but it is more of a challenge, more surprising if you don't have one.
Albert: That's actually really good feedback.

N64 Shooters: What do those bars on the top left mean?
Albert:
It's health (green bar), and body armor (blue bar).

N64 Shooters:
A suggestion I have is if you could make the health so it flashes on the screen when you're hit, because I don't always look up to see where my health is; so like if I'm in the middle of a battle, I don't want to look up.
Albert: You mean if you're close to dead?

Bottom left player has body armor, which is represented by the second bar - the blue one.

N64 Shooters:
Ya. I don't want to look up to see where my health is, I'd rather have it like in Goldeneye when you're dying it shows that watch slowly decreasing.
Albert: Another good feedback.

Albert:
[brings his character to window in "Hidden Volcano"] Notice the fish swimming underwater, and every once in awhile you'll see a shark swim by too.

N64 Shooters:
Are those polygons or are they just bitmaps?
Albert: Actually, the fish I think were bitmap and the shark was actually a polygon.

[By this time, Tariq has engaged in some one on one battles against Albert while we continue with questions...]

N64 Shooters: Does it always run this smoothly in four player?
Albert:
Yep. It's fast, the engine's fast.

N64 Shooters:
I didn't even think a Nintendo 64 could handle it.

N64 Shooters: Do you know right now what sort of multiplayer variations there will be in TWINE?
Albert: There will definitely be team, there'll definitely be head-to-head, there'll definitely be bots, so you can play against bots, and I think we're doing things like Golden Gun, and where you can select which types of weapons, you know, short range weapons, long range weapons... I don't know what other specific features will be in there for multiplayer.

N64 Shooters
: You know what I think would be some really cool guns, would be like a non-lethal gun that shoots something and knocks somebody over, or maybe a glue gun that gets them stuck. I was watching the Discovery Channel and they're real weapons, I just thought they'd be cool in a videogame.

Night vision will be used in both one player(pictured above), as well as multiplayer!

N64 Shooters: We already know that night-vision is used in one-player, will that make it into multiplayer?
Albert: There's night vision, there's also going to be like see-through goggles or see-through glasses where you can see-through walls, so you can look and see what characters are on the other side of the wall.

N64 Shooters: Can you knock out the lights and make it dark?
Albert: Ah, I don't know...I don't think so in this level [Hidden Volcano].

N64 Shooters:
Are some gun reloading animations longer than others?
Albert: Ya, that is one of the ways to balance the weapons. Some of the animations take longer, some have a higher rate of fire, but less bullets.

N64 Shooters: If you hit someone's head, versus their chest, versus their leg...
Albert: There's 15 points of hit zones on the body.

N64 Shooters: Do they react differently?
Albert: Yes.

N64 Shooters: Will it keep track of, like in Goldeneye, the headshots?
Albert: You know, I think for a violence issue, we probably won't track like headshots. There will definitely be stats in the game, but specifically like headshots will probably not be.

Albert: So what do you guys think?
N64 Shooters: Oh I love it, it's great.

Albert: How do you think that it compares to Perfect Dark?
N64 Shooters: It's definitely up there very high, it's got the Bond license going for it which I think is cool. It definitely beats Goldeneye, as far as I'm concerned.

Albert: That should be enough to make people happy.

N64 Shooters: Ya, the smoothness is great, like in Goldeneye it starts jerking around and you cannot aim.

At this time, EA's PR coordinator came into the room and told us that our time was up with Albert. We proceeded to thank him, as well as her, and went on our merry way, very, very pleased with what we had seen in The World Is Not Enough.
