Preview Star Fox Armada
- By []
Whenever E3 rolls around, Nintendo always has a few great surprises and this year was no exception. For anyone who was dissapointed by the more adventure oriented gameplay of Star Fox Adventures, this is great news. The recently unveiled Star Fox Armada (working title) is looking to not only revive its incredible Arwing battles, but add in some armed ground combat to the series as well. Taking place a few years after the Dinosaur Planet incident, a new threat has placed the Lylat system in danger. The StarFox team has been called into action against a new enemy. The original team of Fox, Peppy, Slippy and Falco are re-united and some new characters are set to make appearances to form the Star Fox Armada.
Single and four player multiplayer modes allow players to do battle on foot, jump into the Land Master tank, or Take to the skies in an Arwing fighter. The ground combat will be more of a third person shooter than the type of fighting found in Star Fox Adventures. Multiplayer battles will also be much more interesting than before with not only air combat, but air to ground and ground to ground battles as well. The idea of taking out an Arwing with a rocket launcher or firing down on fleeing ground forces sounds like alot of fun. Besides deathmatches, the series now includes co-op play allowing players to work together against the enemy, commanding thier own vehicles using the split screen or two players commanding the same Arwing or Land Master as a pilot and gunner team. The game is still in developement and already the graphics are impressive, resembling Star Fox Adventures, but now with huge cityscapes and lots of fighting characters, vehicles and special effects. All at a steady framerate.
With the addition of fighting hordes of enemies on foot and the return to its action roots, Star Fox Armada looks like it will be the best installment of the series and will be at the top of alot gamers must have lists when it is released.
