Preview  Soul Calibur 2
- By Daniel Maraglio [Senior Editor]

Its been a few years since the release of Namco's Soul Calibur and by todays standards the game is still one of the best 3-D fighting games ever released. With its amazing graphics, great controls and one of the best fighting engines ever, its a game that could still retain its popularity without having a sequel. Fortunately we dont have to wait much longer for the followup to be released.

A few big features have been added in for Soul Calibur 2. There are new arenas and a few new characters. Cassandra, Raphael, Talim, Yunsung, Necrid and Charade are ready to take on the Soul Calibur veterans. Older characters have new moves, outfits, and the games graphics engine is improved substantially.
The biggest news that everyone is talking about is the appearance of Link. While the XBOX and PS2 versions of SC2 will have Spawn and Heihahi as their exclusives, the Gamecube version has a totally unique addition that will add in more varied gameplay and be alot more fun to use. Another big Addition is the Weapon Master Mode, an upgraded mission mode that allows players to collect over 200 new items and unique weapons with different attributes and appearances. Other modes include Arcade, Time Attack, Vs. Mode, Team Battle and Survival mode.
Having played the imported PS2 version I can say that Soul Calibur 2 will not dissapoint when it comes to graphics and gameplay. Everything is still perfect and the Gamecube controller will fit in even better with the control scheme.
Look for Soul Calibur 2 for the Gamecube on August 26th 2003.
