Preview BackTrack
- By Mike Schneider [Editor In Chief]
July 24, Update Two:
We received an email from Telegames with the following being said...:
Just a bit of clarification about our multi-player games (both Death Match and Matrix Assault). All multi-player games are full-time 4 player games. The participants can be any combination of humans and robots (with slick computer AI), i.e. 1 human and 3 Bots, 2 humans and 2 Bots, 3 humans and 1 Bot, or 4 humans. It makes it alot more challenging and you don't have to rely on your human friends to always be around!
The competing products do not have any Bot capabilities.
July 24th:

May 25:
BackTrack is the first GameBoy Advance project for relatively new developer JV Games. If they can successfully create a fun first person shooter, this will be the game to give them a name too.
Taking place in some time period later than present day, BackTrack pits you in the role of Jim Track, a human set to bust some caps on aliens – with the aid of nine different weapons. Spanning twelve levels, your ultimate intentions are to restore the BSBODSOM project (Build Secret Base on Dark Side of Moon). You see, Domingoaniax, an evil alien leader, and his army of mutants and robot soldiers, have overrun the human setup and are abducting the hapless earthlings and turning them into an army to be used by Domingoaniax to overwhelm Earth. On Jim’s missions, your primary goal is to destroy the aliens and mutated humans, and save as many humans as possible, before finally triggering the self-destruct sequence to destroy the moon base and the remaining aliens.
One graphical enhancement that BackTrack boasts over the other FPS games set to be released on GBA (Dark Arena, Ecks vs. Sever, Doom) is the impressive textures on the floor and ceiling. Like the aforementioned games, enemies are 2D sprites. Also, the game is reported to contain transparent smoke effects, which will definitely help make BackTrack a graphical feast.
Finally, BackTrack can be used for multiplayer death matching with the usage of the GBA link cable.
It’s currently slated to be the first FPS game on GBA, so be checking back soon for more information about BackTrack.
