Preview  Rainbow Six: Rogue Spear
- By Mike Schneider [Editor In Chief]

Rainbow Six is a staple franchise in the gaming industry – however, following a mediocre outing on GBC, this GBA version looks to take advantage of better technology to offer enjoyable tactical based missions that the series is known for on other platforms.

Played from a top-down perspective, the environments are colorful and detailed, with impressive effects such as varying degrees of shadows, or lush snow covering trees in a forest. With settings as diverse as an office building, in a loading dock and streets, or outdoors, the dozens of single player missions look great.

Other than the top-down perspective, this GBA version of Rogue Spear closely follows the basic premise of past incarnations. As always, you’re the leader of a paramilitary squad named Rainbow that must work as a team to stealthily put an end to the evil mayhem at hand. Moving through each level, you must control multiple troops and effectively use them to complete various objectives such as hostage rescues.

Another exciting aspect of this game is multiplayer. Up to four people will be able to play together, though it hasn’t yet been revealed in what ways. Co-operation is almost a guarantee and was one of the most enjoyable aspects of Rainbow Six on N64. Deathmatching is less likely, but that too is a possibility, especially if there is a first person mode available in Rogue Spear. In anycase, co-operating with 3 friends to go through the missions would be a complete blast and likely result in a lot of pleasant shouting back and forth.

There isn’t much else known about this game yet; however, one can speculate that the player might be moved to a first person perspective during some stretches because Redstorm did this a little in the GBC Rainbow Six.

This preview will be updated if and when more info becomes available.
