Preview  Vigilante 8: Second Offense
- By Mike Schneider [Editor In Chief]

Coming soon to N64, brace yourselves for V8: Second Offense. The premise of the game itself is quite familiar by now:

Go through levels, with the general intent of blasting away as many baddies as possible. The game is a graphical splendor, and the sound will most likely retain its 70's feel.

Features of Vigilante 8: Second Offense:

V8 2 packs 18 all-new, supercharged '70s and futuristic vehicles, each with unique special weapons and attack moves. Plus, camera modes include behind-the-wheel or behind-the-car views, which can be switched on the fly.

Cruise and bruise in 8 fully destructible battle set across the United States. Take out buildings, fences or anything else in your path. Of course, each arena will have plenty of powerups, weapons and other interactive level features.

Exclusive Vehicle Upgrade System - Earn points towards the ultimate hotrod of destruction and save it memory to wreck havoc against friends.

The entire line of Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense vehicles offers upgradeable speed, armor, target avoidance and acceleration. As you eliminate opponents, you'll earn points towards special add-ons that will appear on your chassis as your ride becomes more powerful.
Vehicle Upgrades-->As shown by:
Increased Acceleration-->Exhaust, Blower, etc.
Increased Speed-->Larger/Wider Tires, Wings, etc.
Increased Armor/Health-->Bumper, Roll Bars, etc.
Increased Radar/Target Avoidance-->Antenna, Radar Dish

When all four of these elements are maximized, you'll be rewarded with the Ultimate Vehicle Upgrade, an all-new futuristic chassis and maximum Vehicle Upgrades. You can even save your upgraded vehicle to a memory card and use it against friends in multiplayer action.

Propulsion Power Ups allow your vehicle to go almost anywhere - from hovering pods to propeller blades to snow treads and skis.

Propulsion Power Ups

These enhanced vehicle capabilities allow your vehicle to drive almost anywhere. Scattered throughout the environments will be Propulsion Power Up icons. To pick one up, simply drive or jump on it. Your vehicle's wheels will then morph into the new attachment. If you get hit by too much enemy fire, the attachment will be replaced by wheels again. The attachments include:

- Hover Pods: Enable your vehicle to hover above the ground or water, allowing increased speed and enhanced jumps.
- Propellers: Enable your vehicle to cruise on water.
- Skis N' Treads: Provide solid traction on snow and ice.

The Gaming Modes:
- Single player modes include Arcade, Quest, and Survival.
- Two player modes include Co-Op, Quest, and Versus.
- 4 Player Mode includes Brawl, Team or Smear Mode.

Every indication present is that Vigilante 8: Second Offense will be the sweetest vehicle combat game on N64 yet. We'll have more as it's available.
