Preview Batman: Dark Tomorrow
- By Mike Schneider [Editor In Chief]
Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker for N64 wasn’t exactly a good game. In fact, it was horrible. But in any case, history is the past and is best forgotten about, in this case, being that Kemco has a new Batman outing coming for the GameCube.
At E3, the game was one of the few third party GameCube games shown, although only in a full motion video form. The visuals seen were dark, detailed, and deliciously pleasing – though it is admittedly difficult to judge much based on a short full motion video.
One of the most exciting aspects released so far by Kemco is the fact that the storyline is an entirely original one being created by DC Comics…
The screams of police sirens echo through the night as Gotham City is tormented by a gang war in the streets and the sudden disappearance of Police Commissioner Gordon. Moving among the shadows the Dark Knight Detective investigates, learning that all clues point to Arkham Asylum, home for the criminally insane. This must be a trap – but is Commissioner Gordon the target, or merely a decoy? Batman will have to risk his life to solve this mystery, rescue his friend, and bring the criminals of Gotham City to justice.
The gameplay sounds like standard third person shooting fare (though it hasn’t yet been confirmed whether it’ll be a 3rd or 1st person game), with an equal emphasis on overcoming challenging puzzles and whoopin’ some bad-guys butts. There’ll be many note worthy bosses, including Black Mask, the Ratcatcher, Killer Croc, Poison Ivy, Mr. Freeze, and the Joker, to name a few – in levels such as the Batcave, Gotham City, the Underground Sewers, Arkham Asylum, and more.
Among other features known about the game is that Batman will have some amazing gadgetry to unleash with his Utility Belt.
Considering that Kemco displayed no in-game footage at E3, it’ll be interesting to see whether they can make their November 5th, 2001 targeted release date.
