Preview  Doom [GBA]
- By Mike Schneider [Editor In Chief]

It isn't every day when a single game defines an entire genre. With that said, it is arguable that Doom has defined its genre more so than any other game in any genre around. A game placing atop GameSpy's recent Top 50 games of all time feature. A game laced within news agencies’ coverage of the Columbine school shootings due to the game being a fascination of the two killers. A game that has spurned many, many copycats. Ah Doom, we’ve come to know you so well since your debut in 1994 – and we’ll come to know you even better thanks to your GameBoy Advance version.

"DOOM redefined gaming on the PC and now it's back to change the way we think about mobile games," Todd Hollenshead, CEO, id Software, said. "DOOM fans rejoice -- if you thought it was nightmarish the first time, imagine having the Imps and 'Pinkies' in your pocket all the time."

Quite a thought, indeed.

The game is going to be a direct port of the PC Doom, complete with 24 action-packed 3D levels to blast your way through against cyber-organic creatures and nightmarish demons. Relying on stealth is hardly a necessity as you choose from up to eight different weapons that are at your perusal, while trekking through corridorish levels and looking for keys of different colors.

Finally, the multiplayer should be a nice draw of the game. In addition to being able to use any of the 24 single player environments, there’ll be 8 exclusive multiplayer arenas for 2-4 players. For the icing on the cake, there’s a two player co-opp mode. Just imagining being able to work with a friend in the room, while each of you have a different screen, barking orders back and forth – a thought worthy of whetting a fps fan’s appetite.

More as it develops.
