Preview  Duke Nukem: Retribution
- By Mike Schneider [Editor In Chief]

It appears that the GameBoy Advance will have yet another first person shooting game before Christmas 2001, with an already hefty list of Dark Arena, Ecks vs. Sever, Backtrack, and Doom now having one more game to compete with -- Duke Nukem: Retribution.

While no actual information has been released yet on the title, there's a good amount that can be gathered just from viewing a few of the screenshots...

This menu suggest that the levels and gameplay goals are very similar to that of Duke Nukem 64, for example. It's nice to see 5:30 for the time it took to beat the level -- handhelds are meant for pick-up-and-playability. Duke Nukem 64 also contained short levels, much shorter than Duke Nukem: Zero Hour.

Worth taking note of in this screenshot is the great attention to detail. The pop machine reflection is very impressive.

Even more graphical splendor is impressively showcased in this screenshot. Right now, it has to be said: The hands are to the same grahpical level as those in Duke Nukem 64. Don't believe me? Plug in a Duke 64 cartridge and compare. Furthermore, the level of detail in the weaponry is awesome -- this grenade launcher looks as good as weapons in a low-level N64 or Playstation game.

Considering that the four previously mentioned first person shooters all contain a multiplayer mode, and considering the Duke franchise has always supported multi play, it has to be assumed that this is some sort of character selection screen for multiplayer.

With these assumptions, what else can be made? Well, for starters, Duke Nukem: Retribution will likely contain some brief sound clips -- all Duke games do. Of course, these sound clips will enhance the risque atmosphere that Mr. Nukem has become synonymous with.

Perhaps a bigger question though is whether there will be a co-operation mode. Doom has already been confirmed to support one, and one of the two Dukes on N64 [Duke Nukem 64] contained co-opp.

Finally, it can be expected that Duke Nukem: Retribution will feature a variety of weaponry, and fairly straight forward levels with an emphasis on shooting action.

As soon as we can get some confirmed information on this game, we'll update the preview.
