Preview  Resident Evil 4
- By Joe Mackie [Associate Editor]

Capcom has said basically nothing regarding this title, other than that it will be a Gamecube exclusive. But hey, that alone is great news for GCN owners.

Rumors are all over the place as to what the storyline will be. If I was to speculate, and keep in mind that that would be just speculation, I would say that it’s likely the player will control an employee of Umbrella at some point, if not for the majority of the game. As to where in the storyline it fits, I’d guess either right after Resident Evil 0 or after Code: Veronica. Again, it’s all just speculation.

I’m guessing that the game will feature real-time backgrounds, much like Code: Veronica. I’m hoping they’ll take full advantage of the Gamecube’s controller and come up with a brand new control scheme. It’d also be great if they finally dumped the door animations, or at least make an option to turn them off.

If nothing else, I think it’s safe to say that Resident Evil 4 will be very different from the past games. Capcom itself has stated that Resident Evil has gotten a little bit stale, and that it wishes to breathe new life into the series. Rest assured, I’ll bring you some solid info on this hotly anticipated title as soon as it’s available.
