Preview Batman: Vengeance
- By David Faber [Associate Editor]
Come November 18, Ubi Soft will be ready to give the public its first taste of what they can do with the Gamecube hardware. This first offering comes in the form of Batman: Vengeance, and apparently, it actually is *gasp* a good Batman game! Designed on the PS2 hardware, Batman: Vengeance suffered from a mediocre framerate and choppy graphics at some points. However, the GCN port will feature an upgrade from 30fps to 60fps, and enhanced graphics, making it run smoothly.
The Vengeance art style, based on the WB's Batman cartoon license, is what has been coined "dark deco" by the show's original creators, which gives the title a sinister look. From the screen shots, Ubi Soft has captured the original feeling of Batman the Animated Series. The story line revolves around a mysterious crime wave in Gotham city, after the death of the Dark Knight's arch nemisis: the Joker. As the game progresses it becomes more and more clear that Poison Ivy and Mr. Freeze are responsible for these evil-doings. With 19 large, open environments around Gotham and access to all of the bat gadgets, Vengeance is shaping up to be a classic Batman adventure.
