Review  Perfect Dark
- By Mike Schneider

-by Andrew Weatherton , 6.30.00

"Don't believe the hype; experience the reason it was generated in the beginning."

We've waited years to see just how good Perfect Dark would be; we suffered through delays. We even played Goldeneye, but now that Perfect Dark is out was it worth it? Is the game as good as it was made out to be? Is Goldeneye still worth keeping around? Barring a few very small flaws, with an emphasis placed on very, Perfect Dark is everything that we expected it to be, and then some. Having already been put under the looking glass along side its predecessor Goldeneye, we feel safe in saying that Goldeneye was the best first person shooter on a console; and Perfect Dark is miles beyond Goldeneye, in nearly every aspect possible.

We're sure everyone will remember the first time they saw this while waiting for the game to boot up.

When creating a review for Perfect Dark, we concluded there were two possible options for it; 1) we have a 3 word review, consisting of, “Buy it now,” and then that would be that. I’m sure that for many, this would have simply been enough, since regardless of whether or not we said the game was good, that person would have gotten the game simply as a result of the immense hype for it. 2.) Or, being that our review is terribly late, we’d keep delaying it until we were happy with the final product (that philosophy ring a bell?); a final product that we’d hope to be the biggest, most in-depth review of Perfect Dark anywhere. As you’re about to read, we chose option two, with the result being a 15,000 plus word review that will take you longer to read than it will to beat the game on Agent difficulty.

They say that the best reviews are the ones that are able to get their points across in the fewest words possible, we have used reverse-psychology for Perfect Dark and the result is the most in-depth review of Perfect Dark that you will find anywhere on the internet. You may also note that our review is incredibly late, and that is for a reason. We didn't feel it was right to rush our review out while riding on the coat-tails of hype, we wanted to sit down with the game and see everything it had to offer. We also wanted to see how Perfect Dark handled long term.

We recommend you read this like a good novel, and soak the review in from start to finish, but if you'd rather not, we have provided a nice listing of links to the various pages of the review.

Let's get it on with our thoughts on the graphics, in page one of this epic novel.
